Bring a fresh take to your indoor and outdoor spaces with air plants. Whether displayed flowing out of a galvanized bucket or floating in a terrarium, there are lots of ways to display and decorate with these rootless tropical wonders.
Air plants need no medium to thrive. Hanging in a terrarium, air plants receive all the bright, filtered light they need. Just be sure to mist them with water once a week in winter.
During summer months, the air plants can hang outside, though they will need additional misting to keep moist.
For a hanging display, add several terrariums of different shapes, from teardrops to capsules.
For more contrast, show off the rosy red spikes of a Tillandsia air plant by placing one in a bed of long-fibered Sphagnum moss or decorative Spanish moss.
Air plants look beautiful blooming in a wicker basket on a tabletop or hanging on a wall.
Most air plants fit in the palm of your hand, so why not make a home for them in one created from a hypertufa cement mixture. Then you can display the air plants on a shelf or as a unique centerpiece on a table.
Tucked in a conch shell, air plants will remind you of summer, even in dreary winter. If the rustic look is more your style, try nestling them in a piece of wood.
